On Sunday 10 June we will be joining forces with the Secret Garden Salisbury to celebrate the 90th anniversary of the Representation of the People Act 1928 which gave the right to vote to everyone over 21.

The event will be held at the Secret Garden in Mill Road SP2 7RX between 2pm and 4pm. There will be poetry readings including the ‘Shelley Challenge’, a democracy café, a table-top game charting the road to universal franchise, a talk about martyrs buried in the graveyard, as well as tea, coffee and cakes.

This was an important milestone in our democracy because 10 years earlier, although all men won the right to vote, only women aged over 30 with certain property conditions were allowed to vote.
